I was reading the news at yahoo and saw a headline, Modern Warfare 3 is the fastest to $1 billion. The game beats Avatar as the fastest selling entertainment media to reach one billion dollars.
Avatar the 3D Movie released in 2009 achieved the feat in seventeen days it took Call of Duty: MW3 only sixteen. This is great news for gaming during such a down year overall. This year hasn’t been kind to the gaming industry. Month after month I’ve read about production studios downsizing and laying off workers, or even some studios closing altogether.
It’s been pretty exciting for me to watch gaming’s industry grow from the 8-bit era to present day. To morph from an obscure hobby to one of the leading markets in the entertainment industry, has been exciting to say the least. If you have played an early 8-bit game, you will understand what I’m talking about. Not only have the graphics improved dramatically, which is usually the first thing people mention. The overall amount of buttons you have to push and think about have increased. The multi-player has improved dramatically with help from the Internet. Games can range from fast paced and action packed, to puzzles, or laid back adventures.
I might not be a hardcore first-person shooter gamer, but I do like seeing good news for the industry as a whole. Now we can put another feather in our caps as the fastest to reach one billion dollars.
